Above the Cave
St Ninian's Cave is little more than a deep cleft in the rocks by the sea, but its part in the origins of Christianity in Scotland and subsequent centuries as a place of pilgrimage have imbued it with a profound sense of faith and spirituality. From the simple wooden crosses around the site to the roughly engraved words and dedications on the walls and the pennies jammed into cracks in the stone, there is a distinct air of holiness to be found here.
Acrylic on paper (mounted and framed).
An original painting by Glenda Waterworth.
